Peer Review Process

The peer review mechanism constitutes a fundamental foundation of the editorial governance of An-Nisa’ Journal of Gender Studies. This process is designed to support editors in making informed academic decisions while providing constructive feedback to authors in order to enhance the quality of manuscripts through a systematic editorial communication process.

 1. Initial Evaluation:

  • - Each submitted manuscript undergoes an initial screening conducted by the editorial board. This stage aims to evaluate the relevance of the manuscript to the journal’s scope and its compliance with the author guidelines, including the assessment of originality and potential plagiarism.
  • - Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial screening are subsequently processed through a double-blind peer review system.

2. Double-Blind Peer Review:

  • - A minimum of two peer reviewers with expertise in gender studies, Islamic education, religious discourse, gender policy, or ecofeminism are appointed to evaluate the manuscript anonymously.
  • - Selected reviewers will receive a notification via email containing the manuscript title and content, along with an invitation link to access the journal system in order to complete the review process.
  • - The evaluation is conducted based on several indicators, including relevance, originality, coherence of presentation, as well as the appropriateness of the methodology and the validity of the research findings.
  • - Reviewers are given a maximum period of two weeks to complete the review assignment.

3. Confidentiality and Ethical Conduct:

  • - Manuscripts submitted for the review process are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are prohibited from disclosing or discussing the content of the manuscripts with any party without prior written authorization from the editor.

4. Review Criteria:

  • - The relevance and significance of the topic to gender studies within Muslim societies and global issues
  • - The originality of ideas and their contribution to the development of interdisciplinary gender studies
  • - The clarity of structure and coherence of arguments presented in the manuscript
  • - The appropriateness and validity of the methodology employed
  • - The accuracy of the analysis and the validity of the research conclusions

5. Feedback and Constructive Criticism:

  • - Reviewers are expected to provide constructive feedback to assist authors in improving their manuscripts.
  • - The review process must be conducted objectively without involving personal criticism.
  • - Reviewers are also encouraged to present their evaluations in an argumentative manner, supported by relevant evidence, and to identify related scholarly works that may not have been cited by the authors.

6. Conflict of Interest Disclosure:

  • - In the event of a potential conflict of interest whether arising from competitive relationships, collaborative involvement, or other associations with the authors, institutions, or related parties reviewers are required to disclose it transparently.

7. Final Decision and Plagiarism Check:

  • - The final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript is determined by the Editor-in-Chief or Regional Editor, taking into consideration all recommendations provided by the reviewers.
  • - A plagiarism screening using Turnitin software is conducted before the manuscript is forwarded to the reviewers. If the similarity index exceeds 20%, the manuscript will be returned to the authors for revision prior to further processing.

8. Publication and Open Access:

  • - The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for overseeing the publication process of accepted articles and determining their placement in the appropriate journal issue.
  • - All published articles are made available under an Open Access policy, allowing readers to access the content freely without restrictions.
  • - The journal employs the Mendeley reference management tool and follows the APA 7th Edition citation style (full in-text citation system).

Through this comprehensive peer review procedure, our journal is committed to maintaining publication quality, academic integrity, and transparency throughout the publication process.
